On December 8 – 9, 2018, Girls in Tech Gibraltar conducted a two-day hackathon to tackle local community challenges. They teamed up with GibSams, The Nautilus Project, Clubhouse Gibraltar, Gibraltar Heritage and Trust, and The Helping Hand Trust to uncover solutions that would help solve real-world challenges and pain points that are facing these hard-working organisations.
Four teams were comprised of diverse women and men, from designers and developers to entrepreneurs. Over the course of two days, they worked on creating solutions and minimum viable products for these charities. The teams worked on a variety of solutions that addressed suicide awareness, mental health, preserving Gibraltar’s heritage, and environmental and animal habitat preservation. At the end of the final day, they presented their products for judging.
The competition was fierce. Each team showed innovation, creativity and drive, and the judges had their work cut out for them.
